Change the date a photo was taken

Set a new date, or move a whole batch forward or back to fix a camera clock or a time zone. The image itself is not touched.

No photo at hand? (two photos with a date).

How to change the date of a photo

  1. Add your photos. The table shows the current date of each one.
  2. Set a date or a shift. The new dates appear in the table straight away.
  3. Click Change date. One photo downloads directly; several come in a ZIP.

Frequently asked questions

Is this this photo date changer really free?

Yes. It is 100% free, with no usage limits, no account and no sign-up. There is no paid plan and no feature is locked.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Your photos are opened and processed inside your browser and never leave your device. The page only downloads its own code from this site. If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics receives anonymous usage data such as page views, never your photos, their names or their metadata.

How do I fix photos taken with the wrong camera clock?

Add them all, choose “Shift by an amount” and enter the difference, for example 1 hour back or 11 hours forward after a trip. Each photo keeps its relative time.

Which dates does it change?

Date taken, date digitised and modified date inside the photo’s EXIF, the three that Google Photos, Apple Photos and other apps normally read.

Will Google Photos show the new date?

It normally uses the EXIF date taken of the file when you upload it. If a photo is already in the library, you may need to delete it there and upload the new copy. We have not tested every app.

Does it change quality?

No. Only the date text is rewritten. The image data is not recompressed.

Why does my computer show today’s date on the downloaded file?

That is the file system’s “modified” date, set by your computer when any file is downloaded. It is not stored in the photo and a web page cannot set it. The date taken is what albums use.

Can I use this to falsify evidence?

Do not. EXIF is not proof of anything, and misrepresenting dates in legal, insurance or official settings may be illegal. This tool is for correcting your own photos.

Analytics: only if you accept cookies, the page loads Google Analytics (through Google Tag Manager) to count visits and see which tools are used. It never receives your photos, their names or their metadata. You can change your choice at any time with “Cookie settings” at the bottom of the page.
